Are you looking to start you own website or business on the internet? There are a few important questions you must first ask yourself about why people are going to want to come to your site rather than going to other similar sites. The big question is what is your websites contribution to the internet? Ask your self this. What is your favorite website? Make a list of your top 5 favorite websites. We will get back to this later. Now also consider why do you use your computer and the internet? I personally use it to stay connected with friends and family, check the whether before a fishing trip, read the latest new stories, ask questions on forums, read interesting blogs about subjects that interest me etc… Really I use the internet for information. We live in the age of information. We crave information. We can’t get enough it seems. I am constantly looking for new information every single day on the internet. I bet you do too. So what does this mean for you, the webmaster that is looking to create a site that will earn you thousands of dollars per month or maybe you just want to have one of the most popular blogs or sites. While creating your site remember by having a site with lots of quality content you are almost guaranteed success. You will, of course, have to drive some traffic to your site. But by having quality content on your site the traffic will grow virally by many different ways. When you have a quality website with lots of great content a few things will naturally happen. Firstly, people will talk about your site and its benefits. One person tells three of their friends, then those three friends tell three of their friends and so on and so on. As you can imagine it doesn’t take long before thousands of people know about your site. Secondly, all the people who came to your site in the first place will keep coming back because there is so much information on your site that they cannot get to it all in one day! This will keep them coming back for more each day. Thirdly, many other blogs/sites will start to link to you. This will grow your traffic but it will also help your site get indexed faster in the search engines. Link building is a huge part of getting traffic and search engine optimization as the search engines consider links from other sites one of the main factors in ranking well. Of course back links is just on of the many factors that the search engines take in account in their algorithms. Now, back to your top five favorite sites. What are they? My guess is that they are sites that offer a hige amount of quality content and not just a site that is one page selling a 97 dollar ebook. Think about Wikipedia as an example. If I need to find information quick on a subject I head over to Wikipedia. Of course your site will not be as big (or covering such a wide range of topics) as Wikipedia but consider what your site actually has to offer the internet. Consider user experience your websites number one goal. Adding one article or blog post every one or two days will build your website by over 150+ pages per year. But be sure not to limit yourself to just written content. There is many forms of content that will keep visitors coming back day after day. Consider using video (either screen capture software or webcam) to make a video for your site, MP3’s or make a video with a video camera. There is many ways to get great content for your website without writing a word yourself. You can use articles from article directories to build content, hire a writer or use private label articles. By building a website for user experience first, then to monetize your pages second will guarantee that people come back for years to come.
